The family members of Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad, the soldier of the 19 Madras Regiment will leave for New Delhi via Goa after they received news that he had >survived the avalanche that struck Siachen glacier last Wednesday.
Kundagol MLA and parliament secretary to the Karnataka Chief Minister C. S. Shivalli told The Hindu that Lance Naik’s wife Jayashri (Mahadevi), child Netra, mother Basavva Ramappa Koppad, brother Govindappa Ramappa Koppad, brother-in-law Subhas Ashok Bilebal and nephew Ramappa Govindappa Koppad would leave for New Delhi.
Arrangements have been made to take them to New Delhi after army officials confirmed the news of Mr. Koppad miraculously being alive and being treated at a hospital, Mr. Shivalli said.
It was a real ray of hope amidst gloom for the family and the villagers of Mr. Koppad’s native place Betadur near here. The grieving family rejoiced after receiving the news of his being alive. Special prayers have been offered in temples seeking early recovery of the soldier.
Mr. Koppad was among the >10 soldiers who were buried in the avalance at Siachen. Almost all ranks of the government including Prime Minister Narendra Modi had presumed him to be dead.
