Prahlad Remani, former MLA and BJP leader, died in Belagavi on Monday. The 64-year-old leader was suffering from multi-organ failure.
He won the Khanapur seat in Belagavi taluk as a BJP nominee. He was the first candidate of a national party to win from the constituency. Till then, it was a seat occupied by local parties like Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti or by independents. Bur he lost to Aravind Patil of MES in 2013.
Mr. Ramani was a businessman and powerful leader of the Maratha community. He leaves behind three sons and a daughter.
He was suffering from complications arising out of diabetes and kidney ailment. He was treated in hospitals in Bengaluru and Mysuru before being shifted to a private hospital in Belagavi. BJP leaders Rajendra Harkuni and Raju Chikkanagoudar have expressed grief over his demise.
