Event on importance of breastfeeding

Department of Studies in Food Science and Nutrition in association with Indian Dietetic Association, Mysuru chapter, has organised an interaction programme on the importance of breastfeeding at the department premises on August 1.

August first week is observed as Breastfeeding Week and theme of this year is “Breastfeeding: Key to Sustainable Development”.

“It seeks to emphasise breastfeeding as a key element in making us to think about how to value our wellbeing from the start of life”, said a press statement by Asna Urooj, chairperson, Department of Studies in Food Science and Nutrition, and president, Indian Dietetic Association, Mysuru chapter. “The profound importance of human milk in optimising neonatal health and improving child survival is becoming increasingly more apparent, both domestically and internationally,” the statement said.

Also, a team of nutritionists/dieticians along with postgraduate students will interact with doctors and expectant mothers attending the ante-natal outpatient at Cheluvamba hospital from August 2 to 6, the statement added.
