April 02, 2017 11:37 pm | Updated 11:37 pm IST - Chitradurga

Shri Shivamurthy Muruga Sharana of Bruhan Mutt, Chitradurga, has said that people in the district would face several problems if authorities concerned and elected representatives failed to provide them with basic facilities, that included dredging of tanks, drainage works and provision of drinking water in both city and rural areas.

Speaking to reporters here recently, he said that based on the increasing population and the need for improving facilities being provided, there was an urgent need to form two more taluks in the district.

The demand for making Parashurampur a new taluk is on the rise. Residents have also started demanding the taluk status for Parashurampur.

Minister for Social Welfare and district in-charge H. Anjaneya said that the issue of making Parashurampur a new taluk has already been taken up with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who has responded favourably. Steps would be taken to provide necessary facilities to the district including upgrading the government science college and arts college at a cost of ₹13 crore. The officers concerned have been instructed to take up development of all major roads in the city within in two months, he added.

Since the State government has already released the required funds for the setting of a medical college, steps would be taken to do so at the earliest. In order to find solution to drinking water problem, steps have been taken to implement the tank filling project. “The district-level officers have been instructed to ensure that facilities of all government schemes reach the doorsteps of all eligible beneficiaries in the district,” he added.
