The State president of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS), Kodihalli Chandrashekar, charged Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar in creating an artificial power shortage in the State.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Chandrashekar said that all power generation units, including Kali, Linganamakki, and Raichur thermal plants, were functioning properly and generating adequate power.
It has been shown that there is lack of power generation and power was being sold to steel companies, he alleged.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should have convened a meeting of all Chief Ministers of Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka, to solve the problem. However, Mr. Modi is politicising and neglecting the issue, he alleged.
He said that the sangha would organise a State-level bandh on September 26 on the Mahadayi issue.
He took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party for organising the Raitha Chaitanya Yatre.
When there is a BJP government at the Centre, what is the need to organise such a yatre instead of reducing the prices of fertilizers, he asked.
He alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had risen from the farmers’ movement, but after coming to power, had forgotten the plight of farmers.
The KRRS would stage a protest in Chickballapur district on September 21 about the issues of dry land districts and the Yettinahole project.
