Two thieves entered the house of an elderly couple in Udupi in the early hours of Monday and made away with gold ornaments and Rs. 3,000 cash. The car, which the thieves had driven away, was found abandoned in Manipal.

The Malpe Police said Devadas Kamat and his wife have been living in the house located at a secluded place in Pavanjigadde in Malpe. The thieves entered the house at around 5 a.m. on Monday when it was raining heavily. They broke open the terrace door and came down to the room where 73-year-old Devadas Kamat and his wife were sleeping, snatched the two gold bangles that Devadas Kamat’s wife was wearing, tied the hands of the elderly couple and asked them to show the place they had kept cash. The thieves got hold of Rs. 3,000 and left the house with the car of Devadas Kamat.

Superintendent of Police K. Annamalai said police were working on some clues. The thieves did not cause any harm to the couple and did not snatch the mangalasutra of Devadas Kamat’s wife and also the silver articles kept in the pooja room.
