Eight killed, nine injured as MUV collides with truck

Eight persons including four women and two children from Maharashtra died on the spot and nine suffered serious injuries when their Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV) collided head on with a speeding truck near Dogi Nala near Kadaganchi village in Aland taluk on the Aland-Waghdhari inter-state highway on Tuesday afternoon. The passengers were on their way to the pilgrim town of Deval Ganagapur in Afsalpur taluk of Kalaburagi district

All except one of the victims hailed from Kanagara village in Osmanabad district of Maharashtra and the eighth victim hailed from Panchamahal from the same district. All the victims were relatives. Some of the injured hailed from Padoli village in Osmanabad district. They were just 25 km away from their destination when the mishap occurred.

As per the information available as many as 22 persons were travelling in the MUV. All the victims have been identified and they included Kantabai Shivaji (55), Gadabai Pandri Alande (56), Sanjay Shivaji Ingle (34), Usha Prabhakar Dokle (28), Gajabai Srimant Ingle (59), Swapnil Dokle (4), Krishna Sanjay Ingle (4), who hailed from Kanagara village, and Pulchand Dharme (52) who hailed from Panchamahal village.

Minister calls on injured

The condition of some of the nine injured persons, who have been admitted in the government general hospital and private hospitals, was stated to be serious. Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash Patil visited the general hospital and inquired about their health and promised all help to the victims and treatment free of cost.

He also directed the authorities to shift those admitted in private hospitals to the government general hospital and said that the expenses incurred for the initial treatment provided at the private hospitals would be borne by the government.

He said that if the rule permits the government would also pay compensation to the families of the victims. Arrangements would be made to shift the bodies to their native villages.
