Governor Vajubhai Vala has called upon the educated class to come out of aloofness and take part in nation building.

He was here on Friday to inaugurate a two-day conference on ‘Emerging technologies and future of libraries: issues and challenges’, organised by the Karnataka State SC and ST Library Professionals Association at Gulbarga University.

Mr. Vala said that the continued indifferent attitude of the educated class would ruin the efforts to make the country strong and powerful. The Governor said that the active participation of the educated class in the affairs of the country could change its face. “Unfortunately, a large section of the intelligentsia is indifferent and inactive.”

Referring to the technical and scientific advances made in the field of education, Mr. Vala said that they should be used for the development of mankind and for infusing humanness and compassion among youngsters. The Governor said that although e-education and e-library activities were important considering the declining reading habits among the younger generation, books too were important and reading interest among youngsters should be revived.

He said that there was also a need for introducing a uniform library science system in universities. Mr. Vala said that the conference should deliberate on the issue and come out with a project report.

Basavaraj Patil Sedam, MP; G.R. Naik, Vice-Chancellor, Gulbarga University; Ganapathi Z. Shinde, President, Karnataka State SC and ST Library Professionals Association; and Suresh Jange, director of the conference, were present.
