The Election Commission (EC) has decided to set up kiosks near all polling booths across the State on Sunday to issue voter’s slips and guide voters.
The kiosks will issue slips to citizens who have enrolled their names in the electoral roll. Even if the voters do not have EPIC cards, they can exercise their franchise by obtaining voters’ slips from the kiosks.
Burka
Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha said Muslim women wearing burka have to “show their face in a dignified manner. Our booth officials will also act in a dignified way”.
He said eligible voters languishing in jails under preventive detention are allowed to vote under the law.
Drinking water
Political parties are allowed to distribute drinking water to voters who come to the booths. Unauthorised persons are strictly prohibited from entering booths to check percentage of voting and the polling process.
To avoid all kinds of nuisance on polling booth premises, officials will monitor polling in 1,100 booths through webcasting. Polling will also be recorded through video camera and digital cameras.
No queue for them
The EC said people with disabilities need not wait in the queue for casting their votes.
Steps have been taken for enabling them to cast their votes. Polling booth staff will assist them and all facilities have been provided for wheelchairs to be taken into the polling booths.
Seized
Total illegal cash seized by the EC is Rs. 17.75 crore. Total illegal liquor seized is 83,363 litres (Rs. 6 crore). The police have field 797 FIRs and booked 2,392 cases of poll code violations.
