DySP suicide: BJP seeks CBI probe

July 08, 2016 03:26 pm | Updated 03:26 pm IST - Mangaluru

Demanding an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the suicide of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) M.K. Ganapathy, the BJP’s Dakshina Kannada unit also sought the arrest of persons named by the deceased.

BJP members staged a protest in front of the office of Inspector General of Police (Western Range), Mangaluru on Friday.

Sanjeeva Matandoor, unit president, said hours before his suicide, DySP Ganapathy had named former Home Minister and two senior IPS officials, accusing them of harassment, apart from claiming there was a threat to his life. Another DySP Kallappa Handibag also committed suicide recently. Anupama Shenoy recently resigned from the post of DySP citing interference by senior officers and ministers. “These incidents only go to show that there is interference in the functioning of police by senior officials and ministers in the government,” he charged.

From Saturday, the BJP would launch an agitation against the government’s interference in eight Assembly segments in the district, he added.
