After Ramakrishna Hegde and J.H. Patel, now it is the turn of the former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda to put on the grease paint. He is essaying the role of a former Chief Minister in a Kannada film, “Chella Pilli”, being directed by Sai Krishna Kudla.

“Chella Pilli” is a comedy entertainer with Vijay Raghavendra, Aishwarya Nag, Shobharaj and comedy theatre artistes from coastal Karnataka in the lead cast.

According to producer, Sandesh Bhandari, the film is all about funny situations in life. The film also has a message for the present generation. He is planning to release the film in May.

The film crew shot a sequence with Mr. Sadananda Gowda inaugurating a mall in Mangalore. He dubbed his dialogue in Kannada and Tulu recently at a recording studio.

On the number of takes that Mr. Sadananda Gowda needed for canning the sequence, Mr. Sai Krishna said, “Mr. Sadananda Gowda is a professional Yakshagana artiste. His experience came in handy during the shooting of the film and he okayed the shot in a single take,” Mr. Sai Krishna recalled.

What made him rope in Mr. Sadananda Gowda, Mr. Sai Krishna said that he was searching for a “suitable person” to essay the role of a former chief minister in the film. At that time, Mr. Sadananda Gowda was forced to step down from the post of the Chief Minister. He decided to take chance and approached the former Chief Minister for the role. “He (Mr. Sadananda Gowda) found the plot interesting and was impressed by the narration. Without second thoughts, he agreed to act in the film,” he said.

Earlier, it was Ramakrishna Hegde had donned the grease paint for “Marana Mridanga” directed by B. Ramamurthy starring Anant Nag. The former Chief Minister J.H. Patel acted in “Avasthe” directed by Krishna Masadi based on a novel by U.R. Ananthamurthy.

Besides Patel, the former Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash, theatre personality B.V. Karanath have also acted in films based on the life of Socialist leader Shantaveri Gopal Gowda.
