Drop in train passenger traffic

April 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - Mysuru:

The Karnataka Bandh called by various pro-Kannada organisations in support of the Mekedatu project threw public transportation system out of gear but spared the railways.

There was no incident of ‘rail roko’ anywhere in the Mysuru Division of the South Western Railway nor were they any cancellation of services, according to Raj Kumar Lal, Divisional Railway Manager. However, the originating passenger traffic from Mysuru city was down by 40 per cent of the normal times due to the bandh. Sources told The Hindu that outgoing passenger traffic took a hit as bandh forced many people to change their travel plans for the day. As against nearly 25,000 passengers who depart from the city station to various destinations on a normal day, the number of outbound passengers was around 15,000 on Saturday. Sources said not only were there no cancellations but trains ran on time on the three major sections. — R. Krishna Kumar
