The Forest Department is expected to resume its operation to capture wild elephants in Hassan this month. Senior officers of the department are likely to decide the dates for it at a meeting to be held at Mysuru on December 6.
Following a series of protests over elephant menace in parts of Alur and Sakleshpur taluks, the department has so far captured 22 wild elephants. The Karnataka High Court has also granted permission to capture 25 wild elephants in forests. The operation, which began some time ago this year, was stopped during rainy season after capturing 22 elephants.
Ganesh S. Bhat, Deputy Conservator of Forests, on Tuesday told The Hindu that the officers’ meeting to be held at Mysuru would decide the plan. “Once it starts, the operation will not take more than a week to capture three more elephants,” he said.
