In a crackdown on private buses plying in violation of permit rules, officials of the Transport Department, Traffic Police and the KSRTC carried out a coordinated checking drive on the seven roads leading to the city.

The drive began on Friday afternoon and ended around 6 a.m. on Saturday.

150 officials deployed

Of the 275 vehicles which were checked, 104 were found plying in violation of permit rules, said Regional Transport Officer Padmaprasad. Ten private buses, which were operating illegally, were seized.

A total of Rs. 30,600 was collected as penalty while tax dues amounting to Rs. 2.86 lakh were collected during the drive.

About 150 officials were deployed at the check posts on Nanjangud Road, Hunsur Road, T. Narsipur Road, Bannur Road, H.D. Kote Road and Mysuru-Bengaluru Road to check the documents of private buses. Mr. Prasad told The Hindu that the coordinated drive was carried out on the instructions of the Lokayukta police. In view of the complaints of violation of permit guidelines, the decision was taken at a meeting held on January 21.
