Dharam Singh suffered a massive cardiac arrest: Hospital

Former chief minister N. Dharam Singh was brought to the Department of Emergency Medicine, Ramaiah Memorial Hospital, in an unresponsive state at around 10.30 a.m.

According to a statement from the hospital, he had a bout of vomitting and sweating before he was brought to the hospital and the symptoms that suggested a massive cardiac arrest.

A team of emergency medicine specialists led by Aruna C. Ramesh ensured immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the cardiology and cardiac surgery team were on standby ready to intervene if the heart showed signs of mechanical activity. Intraveneous medications, endotracheal intubation, assisted ventilation and cardiac compression were done as per standard guidelines, the statement said.

However, despite all resuscitative measures for one hour, he did not respond and his death was declared at 11.30 a.m. in the presence of his family members, the statement added.
