Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha M. Mallikarjun Kharge inaugurated six development works costing more than Rs.12 crore, taken up by the Hyderabad Karnataka Region Development Board (HKRDB) here on Saturday.
Mr. Kharge inaugurated road repair works at District Armed Reserve police quarters and at Kusnoor village to connect Gulbarga University, taken up at a cost of Rs. 6 crore. He also laid the foundation stone for construction of a hostel for students from the minority communities with a capacity of 100 at a cost of Rs. 2 crore on the university campus.
Mr. Kharge flagged of six buses provided by the HKRDB exclusively to shuttle between Gulbarga University and the Central University of Karnataka. The HKRDB has allocated another Rs. 2 crore for construction of a general hostel at Gulbarga University.
Dr. Ambedkar Bhavan and Mahatma Gandhi Hall at Gulbarga University renovated at a cost of Rs. 1 crore were also inaugurated. Mr. Kharge said that the universities had a great responsibility in improving the quality of higher education system by improving the standards of teaching. “Teachers have to update themselves about new research works related to the subject instead of repeating the syllabus,” he said.
Minister for Medical Education Sharanprakash Patil and Gulbarga University Vice-Chancellor S.R. Niranjana were present.
