Deve Gowda visits Hemavati reservoir

Former Prime Minister and Hassan Lok Sabha member H.D. Deve Gowda, on Thursday, visited Hemavati reservoir at Goruru and collected details on water available in the reservoir from the officers.

As on Thursday morning, the reservoir with the total capacity of 37.10 tmcft, had the gross storage of 4.97 tmcft. The water level stands at 2,864.68 ft against the full reservoir level of 2,922 ft. Given the amount of water available in the reservoir, said Venkatesh, Executive Engineer of the Hemavati dam division.

Every month about 0.4 tmcft of water is required for drinking water purpose in Hassan, Arakalgud and other places, which are dependent on the reservoir for drinking water.

Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Deve Gowda said he had already travelled certain areas in Cauvery and Krishna basins to assess the drought condition. He would travel a few more places in a few days and write to Chief Minister and Water Resources minister regarding water available in the reservoir and how to manage the same.

Mr. Deve Gowda was accompanied by Hassan MLA H.S. Prakash and Hassan CMC president H.S. Anil Kumar.
