Devara Dasimayya Jayanti celebrated in Bidar

The birth anniversary of Devara Dasimayya, the 12 century saint-poet and senior contemporary of Basaveshwara, was celebrated here on Tuesday.

Vachana literature scholar Akka Annapurna, who spoke about his life and writings, said that he was born in Mudanur in Yadgir district and wrote vachanas to spread the message of equality and peace. As many as 176 vachanas of Dasimayya were available while only two vachanas written by his wife Duggale had survived till now, she said.

Deputy Commissioner Anurag Tewari announced that the district administration was ready to construct a community hall in the name of Devara Dasimayya. Pandit Chidri, chairman, Karnataka State Sheep and Wool Development Corporation, said he would request Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to release more funds for the hall.

Leaders of various communities, SP Prakash Nikam, Assistant Commissioner Venkat Raja and others were present.
