District Health Officer Venkatesh on Friday told private hospitals to first get things verified from the Health Department before making any announcement on fevers.
Addressing presspersons at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, he said: “it has been found that some private hospitals are exploiting people’s fear and ignorance. They have told patients suffering from common fever that they had dengue, and that the treatment cost would come to around Rs. 10,000.”
Strict action would be taken against hospitals found doing so, he warned.
On the dengue and malaria scenario in the district, Mr. Venkatesh said: “310 suspected dengue cases have been reported in the district this year.
Tests were conducted in 227 cases. Thirty-two tested positive, and four persons died”.
Mr. Venkatesh asked people to take precautions.
