Dasara food festival promises to tease the taste buds

Get ready for a gastronomic journey in Mysore this festive season at the Dasara Food Mela here.

This year, the food festival will be held from October 8 at six locations in the city.

Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, the Dasara Food Festival sub-committee president M. Rajendra said quality, hygienic food at subsidised costs, representing the traditional cuisine of Mysore, as well as the rest of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Gujarat would be available.

Mr. Rajendra, who is president of the Mysore Hotel Owners' Association, said Mysore Mallige, Mysore betel vines, Mysore Pak and Nanjangud banana would be promoted and sold at all six venues.

Venues

The mela will be held on the CADA office premises from October 8 to 16, Maharaja's College Grounds from October 9 to 15, Open Air Theatre at Manasagangotri from October 5 to 9, Torch-light Parade Grounds from October 15 to 17, J.K. Grounds from October 13 to 15 and the palace premises from October 8 to 16.

Working president of the sub-committee P. Shivanna said that although the mela would be formally inaugurated on October 8, food would be available at the Open Air Theatre from October 5, as it was the venue of the Yuva Dasara.

As many as 55 stalls would be set up on the CADA office premises, 25 at Maharaja's College Grounds and 10 to 15 stalls at the other venues.

A team of workers had been appointed to clean up the venues, Mr. Rajendra added.

All six venues would be no-plastic zones. Only eco-friendly material such as paper cups and biodegradable plates would be used to serve the food.

Prizes would be given to the stalls that maintain hygiene and provide good service.

Foodies can enjoy the delicacies while watching traditional dance and music performances. Yakshagana, folk performances, Kathakali and Dandia are some of the cultural programmes planned to be held on the CADA office premises, Mr. Rajendra said.

Competitions in eating idlis (for children), dosas (for adults) and bananas (for elders) would be conducted.
