Dasara Air Show to be bigger, brighter

This year’s Dasara Air Show will have many attractive events. As promised, the show features the first-ever performances by the famed Surya Kiran fixed-wing and Sarang helicopter aerobatic teams, which will enthral aviation enthusiasts.

The show will be bigger and brighter than the previous ones, since over a dozen events are set to entertain Dasara visitors on the Bannimantap Grounds.

The Karnataka government had reportedly requested the Indian Air Force to add more events to the annual spectacle to give a “new identity” to the show that has been part of the Dasara festivities for the past five years.

Considering the State’s request, the IAF has prepared a list of attractive and spectacular events such as Surya Kiran performance, to entertain the audience.

Addressing presspersons here, Deputy Dasara Special Officer Palaiah said the show would begin at 10 a.m. on September 24. The show’s full dress rehearsal would take place on September 22. Revenue Minister Karunakara Reddy would inaugurate the show. Air Marshal V.R. Iyer and Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani would be the chief guests. District in-charge Minister Shobha Karandlaje would preside over the function.

The show will take off with the flying of remote-controlled aero models by Adarsh from Bangalore. Pilots will display the prowess of MI 8 and Chetak helicopters.

Chetak helicopters will shower flower petals on the audience as soon as the show commences. There will be a demonstration of slithering operation by soldiers attached to the Maratha Light Infantry from an MI 8 helicopter.

“Small Boy” formation

The fly past of AN-32 and two Dorniers in a “Small Boy” formation is another event.

Like in the previous years, this time too Akash Ganga, the celebrated skydiving team of the IAF, will perform. Skydiving has been described as the art of performing in the air, defying gravity, but of course, aided by parachutes.

Akash Ganga, which has thrilled the audience across the country, will once again enthral Mysoreans with its dives from a great height.

The show will also have a performance by Air Warrior Drill Team. The performances of Surya Kiran and Sarang helicopters are this year’s added attraction. The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) was established to showcase the professionalism of the IAF. It too performs aerobatic displays. One of the prestigious aerobatic teams in the world, it is based at the Bidar Air Force Station.
