Two Dalits were assaulted, allegedly by Bajrang Dal workers, at Alduru in Chikkamagaluru taluk on Sunday. Among the accused is Tudkur Manju, district convener of Bajrang Dal.

According to the complaint filed by one of the victims, Dinesh of Kuduvalli village, he and Girish of Hededalu village were assaulted by Manju and his associates Chetan and Prateek while they were having food at a restaurant. “[The trio] scolded us citing our caste and hit us,” said Dinesh.

Dinesh and Girish are being treated in a hospital at Chikkamagaluru. The Alduru police have registered a case under Sections 323 (causing hurt voluntarily) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. No arrests have been made.
