In light of the accident where an underage boy lost his life in a car race that went horribly wrong on Hosur Road Elevated Expressway, the Bengaluru Traffic Police have decided to crack down on street racing and underage driving.

The 17-year-old boy, while racing with his friends at 150km/hr, lost control of the car, rammed into the parapet of the flyover and crashed into barricades at the end of the road, early Sunday morning.

The police will monitor popular places where races are held, including NICE Road, Nelamangala tollway, Kolar highway, Nandi Hills as well as the site of Sunday’s accident.

To keep a check on this growing menace, instructions have been issued to all senior police officers to hold campaigns to flag down and catch racers as well as underage drivers who roam the streets without a licence.

In the past, the police have seized two-wheelers that have been modified for racing purposes.
