The activists of Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a protest demonstration in front of BSNL office here on Tuesday opposing gas price hike and deregulation of diesel prices.
Addressing the agitators, district secretary of CPIM, Syed Mujeeb alleged that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi was just waiting for the elections in Maharashtra and Haryana to end to bring good days (acche din) for the corporate companies by increasing the natural gas prices and deregulating the diesel prices.
He alleged that the gas price hike results in the hike in the prices of fertilizers and electricity.
He said that by increasing the price, Modi is helping the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) and Reliance India Limited companies to make profit. He said Union government had taken a decision recently to sell 5 per cent of ONGC shares. He alleged that by increasing the gas price, the share price of ONGC will also increase.
He criticised that the Modi government is anti-poor and helping the corporate companies to make profit.
Leaders of CPI(M), N. K. Subramanya, B. Umesh, Sridhar, Ramachandra, Puttegowda and others were present.
