A couple attempted suicide after their families opposed their decision to marry in Chintamani in Chickballapur district. Both are now recuperating in different hospitals in Bengaluru.

The police have registered an FIR against them on the charge of attempt to suicide.

Srikanth (25) and Anusha (18), residents of Katamachanahalli under Rural Police limits in Chintamani, had decide to marry but Anusha’s parents reportedly objected as they belonged to different castes.

The pair jumped into an abandoned well on the outskirts of the village in a bid to end their lives on Monday.

Some shepherds in the area spotted them and saved their lives.

They had been admitted to SNR District Hospital in Kolar with severe fracture and bone injuries. Later their families shifted them to different private hospitals in Bengaluru for further treatment.
