Officials of the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) were at the receiving end at the council meeting on Thursday as the members — both ruling and the Opposition — vent their ire against them for inefficient water supply in wards.

Shouting slogans against the officials, they rushed to the well of the House and demanded uninterrupted water supply.

M.V. Ravishankar, Tasleem, Haseen Taj, Snake Shyam, J.S. Jagadish, Opposition leader D. Nagabhushan, Pushpalatha T.B. Chikkanna, Sunil Kumar, Ayaz Pasha, Shaukhat Pasha, Purushottam, Ravindra Kumar and others staged a dharna.

Amid the protest, some members demanded that the responsibility of water supply be retained by the MCC while a few others backed the move to hand it over to the Karnataka Urban Water Supply Drainage Board.

When the council plunged into a pandemonium, Mayor R. Lingappa adjourned the meeting for 30 minutes.

After the meeting resumed, the former Mayor Ayub Khan sought disciplinary action against officials in-charge of water supply as water distribution in his ward and also in wards under Narasimharaja constituency had become inefficient.

Water was supplied once in two days and in some areas once in four days, he claimed, adding that the residents were taking elected representatives to task on the issue of water supply.

The Mayor warned that the officials who were showing indifference to the issue would be taken to task and action would be sought against such officials.

The Mayor also administered oath of office to five nominated members — H.K. Ananth, P. Devaraj, Raghuraje Urs, Ashokkumar and H.S. Prakash.
