Moorusavir Mutt seer to chair meeting, Shettar likely to participate

As a precursor to the proposed Lingayat convention in Hubballi on November 5, a contemplation meeting on the independent religion issue will be held in Hubballi on Sunday.

Gurusiddha Rajayogindra Swami of Moorusavir Mutt, Hubballi, whose stand on the issue has been wavering, will be chairing the consultation meeting to be held at Lingarajnagar Samudaya Bhavana at 10 a.m.

Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, State convenor of Vishwa Lingayat Mahasabha Chintamani Sindagi, and district unit president Mohan M. Nuchhi said that they had invited leaders of all political parties to the meeting. Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar had consented to participate.

They said that the meeting was to highlight and elaborate on how Lingayata Dharma was different from other religions particularly Hinduism and why constitutional recognition for it as independent religion was required. Various seers of Virakta Mutt and political leaders would participate in the meeting where President of Mahasabha Sanjay Makal and writer Ramazan Darga would deliver lectures, Mr. Chintamani said.

Answering queries, Members of the Reception Committee S.V. Pattanashetti and M.V. Gongadashettar clarified that the movement was being led by religious heads and not political leaders. “We have approached leaders of all political parties including BJP as we need support for our demand from them also”, they said.
