Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson S. Suresh Kumar on Friday alleged that the Congress was using postmen as its agents to deliver pamphlets of the party’s candidate in Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency to households.

‘Model code violation’

Terming it as a blatant violation of the model code of conduct, he urged the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to restrain the party from doing so.

Mr. Kumar, accompanied by the State BJP media convener S. Prakash, told Additional Chief Electoral Officer S. Ziyaullah that the Congress was also paying Rs.1.50 per pamphlet as against the prescribed fee of Rs. 6 to the Postal Department.

He alleged that the postmen were distributing other campaign material of the Congress to the voters during their duty hours.

The CEO must seek the intervention of the Postmaster General on these serious issues, the spokesperson said.

Mr. Ziyaullah assured the BJP delegation that he would bring it to the notice of the Postmaster-General and M. Lakshminarayan, District Election Officer, and get a report from the latter on the complaint.

Later, speaking to presspersons, Mr. Kumar alleged that the pamphlets did not have either the name of the publisher or the party seal.

The BJP spokesperson said there were over 20 lakh voters in Bangalore Central constituency with nearly seven lakh houses.

Mr. Kumar said his party did not have information on whether the Congress was employing the same method in other constituencies.
