The Congress, considered sluggish in using social media platforms as opposed to the Opposition BJP, has decided to put its act together on this front ahead of the 2018 Assembly polls. It will scale up its social media presence with a big bang through a network of 6.5 lakh booth-level committee members.

There are 54,262 booths in the State. Each booth-level committee has 10 to 15 members.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G. Parameshwara said here on Thursday that the social media campaign executed by the booth-level committee members will be monitored by booth-level presidents and observers in Bengaluru.

The campaign would be launched under the ‘Mane-Manege Congress’ (Congress for every home) slogan — coined by Congress vice-president B.L. Shankar — on Saturday at Mahadevapura in the city and simultaneously in all 224 Assembly constituencies. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka K.C. Venugopal will attend the programme in Bengaluru.

The party has a strategy for all tools of social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp. Each booth-level committee member will inform the electorate of the government’s programmes, announcements made by Mr. Siddaramaiah, AICC president Sonia Gandhi, vice-president Rahul Gandhi or the district in-charge Minister.

Under the ‘Mane-Manege Congress’ campaign, a 30-page booklet would be given to each household at the booth level. This campaign ends on October 15.

The booklet contains information on development programmes undertaken by the Siddaramaiah government in the last four years. When the Congress was in the Opposition in 2013 elections, it had launched ‘Congressna nadige Janara Kadege’ .
