Congress gained from our absence, says Kumaraswamy

Admitting that the decision of the Janata Dal (Secular) against contesting the Nanjangud and Gundlupet byelections helped the Congress win the seats, JD(S) State president H.D. Kumaraswamy said if his party had fielded candidates, the BJP might have benefited.

The byelection outcome would have no bearing on the 2018 Assembly elections, he said, and added that the results would not change the political situation in the State.

Mr. Kumaraswamy said, “There is no reason for the BJP to get disillusioned and the Congress to celebrate. The byelection outcome is neither an indicator to the Assembly election results as earlier claimed by BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa or a yardstick of the performance of the Congress government as reflected by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.”
