Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson P.R. Ramesh on Sunday complained to Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha that BJP candidate from Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency Ananth Kumar was making factually incorrect claims in pamphlets distributed in the constituency.
According to Mr. Ramesh, who submitted a memorandum to Mr. Jha, Mr. Kumar was claiming that Adamya Chetana, a non-governmental organisation run by his wife, Tejaswini Ananth Kumar, was distributing free midday meals to hundreds of schoolchildren.
Mr. Ramesh claimed that Adamya Chetana was getting huge funds from the government and neither Mr. Kumar nor the organisation were spending money from their pockets to help poor children.
Moreover, he alleged that the pamphlets did not display the names of either the publisher or the printer in violation of the model code of conduct.
He demanded that the Election Commission (EC) direct Mr. Kumar to stop giving wrong information to voters.
Mr. Jha said that he had asked the Returning Officer of the constituency to send a report pertaining to the complaint, which would be passed on to the EC for further action.
