Cong.-JD(S) alliance will collapse in three months: Eshwarappa

Says JD(S) is a party with no base in 20 districts and 129 of its candidates forfeit their deposit after the poll

Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa on Monday said the Congress-JD(S) alliance government to be headed by H.D. Kumaraswamy may not last even for three months.

“This unholy and opportunistic alliance will collapse soon,” he predicted, even before the coalition government has come into existence.

Speaking at a meeting organised by the BJP in connection with the Legislative Council elections to the Graduates’ and Teachers’ Constituencies here, Mr. Eshwarappa lashed out JD(S) and Congress leaders for calling his party ‘communal’ and questioned, “Was the party not communal when Kumaraswamy joined hands with the BJP in 2006? Was the party not communal when Siddaramaiah became the Minister for the first time in the Ramakrishna Hegde government which was supported by the BJP?”

No base

He said the JD(S) has no base and identity in 20 districts and its candidates forfeited deposit in 129 Assembly constituencies from where they contested.

Heaping praise on BJP workers and supporters for helping the party win 104 seats, he said the BJP ensured that Mr. Siddaramaiah was the last Chief Minister of the Congress. He lashed out at Mr. Siddaramaiah for joining hands with the party whom he had criticised the most in the elections.

‘Focus on Council polls’

Mr. Eshwarappa called upon BJP workers not to get disheartened over the party not getting the majority and continue in power, and urged them to focus on winning the Council polls.

Shobha Karandlaje, MP; S.A. Ramdas and C.S. Niranjan Kumar, MLAs, and others attended.
