Cong. councillors accuse Mayor of bringing bad name to govt.

July 29, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:08 am IST - MYSURU:

Congress councillors accused Mayor B.L. Bhyrappa of deliberately putting off approval for development projects in the city to bring a bad name to the State government.

Speaking to presspersons after the Mayor abruptly walked out of the council, in the midst of a dharna by Congress councillors seeking immediate approval for projects, the former Mayor Ayub Khan said that Mr. Bhyrappa, who belongs to the JD(S), was delaying approving projects so that the Congress government would lose face.

More than three months had passed since the 14th State Finance Commission had sanctioned Rs. 25.5 crore to the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC). There is no justification for the Mayor to delay approving for the projects, he said.

“A lot of money is spent to conduct a council meeting when honorarium is to be paid to the councillors and snacks have to be arranged. What is the need to convene another meeting by spending so much money?” he asked.

Leader of the Congress party in the corporation Jagadish said the Mayor’s move to put off a decision on giving approval for the projects amounts to injustice to councillors and city residents.
