On Tuesday, Social Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya disappointed the Koram Samaj Kshemabhivruddhi Sangha, but pleased the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti-Karnataka by visiting their protest venue.
There were conflicting demands of the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti-Karnataka and Koram Samaj Kshemabhivruddhi Sangha. While DSS demanded that the State government implement the recommendations of the Justice A. J. Sadashiva Inquiry Commission (which submitted its report to the government in June 2012) and four acres of land under the Akrama-Sakrama to every landless family belonging to the Madar community, the Koram Sangha strongly opposed its implementation. DSS Belagavi district convener Ramesh S. Madar alleged that CM Siddaramaiah had strongly supported the commission’s report when he was in the opposition, but now was failing to show the necessary will to implement it. Belagavi District Koram Sangh president Ramji Bhajantri strongly opposed the implementation of the recommendations of the Sadashiva Commission stating that its will lead to injustices for several SC communities. He demanded that the government set up a board for the development of Koram community. However, solace came when Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait arrived at the site of the protests and accepted memorandum from the leaders of Koram Sangha, and Mr. Anjaneya from the leaders of DSS at the end of the day.
