Complaints related to non-inclusion of names in the voters’ list, errors in data entry, and delay in issuance of the Electors Photo-Identity Cards (EPIC) poured in during the verification process in 1,944 polling booths of the Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency on Sunday.
The majority of complaints were related to non-addition of names to the voters’ list even after submission of applications in advance. Abdul Rahman, a retired bank employee, had submitted his application on December 5, seeking inclusion of his name and those of his wife and sons in the voters’ list.
He told The Hindu that the names were not included in the revised voters’ list published at polling booths on Sunday.
Anwar Pasha, social activist, complained that many names were deleted from the voters’ list without proper verification. In K.R. Puram, Seegehatti and the surrounding areas, the names of many voters who possess EPIC have been deleted, he said.
Former MLA K.G. Kumaraswamy said BJP workers had earlier begun a drive to add names to the voters’ list. The forms for registration of names were also distributed among people by party workers.
In polling booths 162 and 169, more than 50 applications submitted for addition of names as part of the drive were neglected, he claimed. There are also many data entry errors in the voters’ list concerning gender, spelling, and the marital status of voters, he added.
K.E. Maheshwarappa, retired teacher and resident of Tilak Nagar, said there was delay in providing EPIC to his family members.
John Bhaskar, another resident of the same locality, complained that the photo of his neighbour was entered against his name in the voters’ list.
