The Mudigere police on Thursday arrested Santhosh, 20, the main accused in the abetment to suicide of a 20-year-old college student, in Bengaluru.

Santhosh, who is from Badagakajekar village in Bantwal taluk, works as a lift mechanic.

Superintendent of Police K. Annamalai informed the presspersons on Thursday that Santhosh had contacted the girl, who was from Mudigere, through WhatsApp and also threatened her parents. He had circulated screenshots of his conversation with the girl in different groups, thus abetting her suicide, Mr. Annamalai said. A team of police officers, led by Mudigere police sub-inspector M. Rafeek, arrested the accused in Bengaluru. The police have already arrested M.V. Anil, president of the Mudigere town unit of the BJP’s Yuva Morcha, in this case.

Santhosh had called up the girl introducing himself as a member of the Bajrang Dal and objected to her friendship with a Muslim boy. Later, he had shared the screenshots of his conversation with the girl with many groups. A few people had also visited the girl’s place and threatened her and her parents.
