Members of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions, Belagavi chapter, took out a rally in Belagavi on Tuesday in protest against delay in payment of salaries and other benefits to employees of urban local bodies.

They walked to the Deputy Commissioner’s office and shouted slogans against the government. They sought an early meeting with workers and officers of town municipal councils in the district.

They complained that workers in Chincholi town panchyat had not been paid for six months. They also alleged that the dearness allowance and other benefits due to the workers in the district for over one year had not been paid to any of the workers of urban local bodies.

They complained that Additional Deputy Commissioner Suresh Itnal had promised to convene a meeting of officials and invite them to it, but had failed to do so. They urged DC N. Jayaram to hold a meeting and resolve their issues soon. P.V. Kulkarni, J.M. Jainkhan and other leaders were present.
