Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered a CID inquiry into the rape and murder of a minor Dalit girl.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, before leaving for Belagavi, the Chief Minister said that he has decided to hand over the case to CID for faster investigation.

To a question, he made it clear that he had full faith in the police investigation. But for the satisfaction of the family of the girl, he took the decision.

He said the government has done its best in getting justice to the family of the victim by not only ordering inquiry by CID but also issuing compensation to the family.

Accusing the BJP of playing politics on the issue, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that it is the habit of the BJP to play politics over the sensitive issues such as death.

“The BJP has been playing politics over the dead which has become habit for the party, but as a responsible government we are doing our best to nab the culprits who have committed the crime,” he said. Meanwhile, it is learnt that some six accused named in the case are associated with Hindu organisations.

Though their photos went viral on social media, however the police did not confirm their identity.

Sources in the police department say that of the six accused, at least three are miners considering their educational qualification.

“The main accused Deepak was the student in the same school where the victim was studying and he is just two year senior to the victim,” sources said. The police also disapproved of a section of the electronic media trying to give communal colour to the incident.

“In one of the Kannada news channels, the anchor was asking where are Hindu organisations and why they are not protesting against the incident. Such provocative statements are certainly not expected from the media. The matter has nothing to do with either one community or the other,” a police official asked.
