Chittani Yakshagana Saptaha begins in Udupi

The week-long Chittani Yakshagana Saptaha began with the performance of the Yakshagana ‘prasanga’ at Rajangana on Sunday.

The saptaha is being held under the joint auspices of Sri Krishna Mutt, Sri Veeranjaneya Yakshamitra Mandali, Bangarmakki, and Chittani Abhimani Balaga. During the week, veteran Yakshagana artiste Chittani Ramachandra Hegde will perform.

Inaugurating the saptaha, Vidyavallabha Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Kaniyur Mutt said that Yakshagana was an art form which combined acting, costumes and powerful dialogues. Chittani Ramachandra Hegde has a large following. People come from different places just to see him don various characters, he said.

Sanjeeva T. Karkera, Lions Regional chairperson, Tallur Shivaram Shetty, president of Chittani Yaksha Balaga, and Gopikrishna Rao, secretary, were present.
