G.M. Siddeshwar, MP, has said that National Highway-4 between Chitradurga and Hubballi will be converted into six lanes from the existing four in the next 30 months.
Speaking at a meeting of officers of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and other departments here on Friday, he said the project would be implemented in three phases. Three companies have already bagged the tenders and the project will be launched in November, he said.
Mr. Siddeshwar said there are plans to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari to launch the project. “Since the project comes under the jurisdiction of Chitradurga, Davangere, Haveri and Hubballi MPs, a final decision will be taken after holding discussions with them,” he said.
NHAI Planning Director Somshekhar said the loopholes that were found while implementing the three-lane works would rectified while implementing the six-lane works and a notification for acquisition of land has already been issued. A total of 140 hectares in Chitradurga district and 45 hectares land in Davangere district would be acquired for the project, he said.
Depending on the requirement and convenience of people on either side of the road, the over-bridges and under-passes would be constructed. Before finalising these over-bridges and under-passes, a discussion with MLAs, local elected representatives and the public will be held.
The Bescom, KPTCL and City Municipal Council officers have been instructed to shift electric poles and water pipelines on the project area. All departments should work in tandem for completion of the project within the stipulated time, he said.
