In spite of the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) issuing a notification that private colleges are not allowed to charge an additional fee, secretary of the Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering College Association M.K. Panduranga Shetty has asserted that students have to pay the additional sum if they are to be admitted in the colleges.
Speaking to The Hindu on Sunday, he said: “We will not admit students if they do not pay the additional fee.” He also said that the association would take the matter to court if necessary.
However, Rashmi V., executive director of the KEA, maintained that the role of the KEA was just to conduct exams and allot seats.
As Monday is the last day for confirmation of allotment and payment of fee, students and parents are anxious about the miscellaneous charges they will have to pay.
Students are expected to report to the colleges on July 31.
‘Take action’
Meanwhile, a press release issued by the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO), Karnataka State Committee, demanded that the government take stringent action against the managements of private colleges.
Second round
The second round of the admission process is scheduled to take place on August 1.
The admission process for around 21,064 Common Entrance Test (CET) rank holders has been completed at the KEA as on Sunday.
A press release issued by the KEA said that this included 19,321 engineering candidates, 1,331 medical candidates, 133 dental candidates and 148 candidates in Indian Systems of Medicine and Homeopathy.
Some students, who had not completed the admission process rank-wise, submitted the demand drafts and received their admission order on Sunday.
