Ceiling painting grabs eyes at Shiggaon

In a record of sorts, a 1,200 x 7 feet long “Ceiling Painting” that is aimed at highlighting ‘universal brotherhood’ as the only solution for the fight against terrorism, has been completed at Shiggaon in Haveri district.

The work on the painting had begun at Utsav Rock Garden at Gotagodi near Shiggaon in Haveri district on January 29 under the guidance of senior artist T.B. Solabakkanavar. The initiative was taken up by Mr. Solabakkanavar with the assistance of Santa Sevala Maha Mutt at Sooragondanappa in Shivamogga district where the painting will be displayed.

According to Mr. Solabakkanavar, the painting is a message to society through art on how to fight against the terror forces .

The painting has been completed by Mr. Solabakkanavar with the help of art teachers and students from across the state. Over fifty art teachers and students from Vijaya Fine Arts College of Gadag, SJM Fine Arts College of Chitradurga, Government Fine Arts College of Dharwad, Davanagere and other places had camped at Utsav Rock Garden for the last 10 days to draw the painting and senior artists from the Rock Garden were also with them working in various groups.

To ensure its longevity, the painting has been drawn on polycarbonate UV coated multiwall sheet and quality paints from reputed companies have been used. The painting which is a series of illustrations on various subjects unravels various societal angles, art, tradition, culture, water, animals and several related aspects.

On Sunday, a formal valedictory ceremony to mark the completion of the painting was held in which former minister Basavaraj Bommai, Managing Director of Karnataka Tanda Development Corporation Heera Naik, MLA and President of Santa Sevalal Janmasthal Maha Mutt Committee, Mr. Solabakkanavar, Managing Director of Utsav Rock Garden Prakash Dasanur and Curator Vedarani P. Dasanur were present. All the artists who were involved in the initiative were honoured on the occasion.
