The City Crime Branch (CCB) has joined the investigation by the V.V. Puram police into the mysterious murder of a 48-year-old homemaker in her house in post Yadavgiri on Wednesday.

“The CCB has joined the investigation by the V.V. Puram police. We are hopeful of securing clues soon and cracking the case,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) M. Mahadevaiah.

The victim, Vasumathi, wife of Dr. J.A. Mohan Kumar, was found dead in a pool of blood in her house with her throat slit. The murder came to light when her husband returned home around 3 p.m.

Police said the murder appeared to be the handiwork of a person familiar with the family. A sharp weapon had been used to attack her and stab wounds were found her stomach. However, no attempt had been made to take away her jewellery and valuables from the house.

A large number of friends and relatives turned up at the house of the deceased on Thursday before her last rites were performed.
