Leaders of a number of Dalit organisations have charged Mulbagal MLA G. Manjunath for misuse of power in the false caste certificate case of his brother G. Venkataramana.

The leaders submitted a memorandum to the Additional Deputy Commissioner on Saturday. The memorandum mentioned that attempts are being made to fetch caste certificate even as the caste certificate issue of Mr. Manjunath is pending in the High Court of Karnataka.

“The legislator is putting pressure on the authorities to issue false caste certificate for his brother even though the case against Mr. Manjunath has not yet settled in the court,” the leaders said.

“Some influential and wealthy sections of the society are grabbing the Constitutional guaranteed facilities meant for Scheduled castes and tribes by getting false caste certificates,” R. Srinivasan, former president of Zilla Panchayat, alleged.

The authorities refused to give Budga Jangama caste certificate under Byragai community to Mr. Venkataramana citing the arguments and documents presented in the past against Mr. Manjunath’s caste certificate.

In spite of this, Mr. Manjunath is coercing Mulbagal tahsildar to issue the certificate, the leaders alleged. They appealed to the district administration that no member of Mr. Manjunath’s family be issued Budga Jangama certificate until the case is disposed in the High Court.
