Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission will submit the findings of the Socio-Educational and Economic Survey (popularly known as caste census), conducted in 2015, to the State government by June 25.
H. Kantharaj, commission chairperson, said on Tuesday that the commission had asked all the deputy commissioners to submit the reports within 10 days. “In the next one-and-half a months, we will submit the entire report to the government,” he told presspersons here.
Along with commission members Gopal, Dharmaraj, Sharanappa, Gurulingaiah and Ningappa, Mr. Kantharaj conducted a public hearing at the Mandya Zilla Panchayat auditorium.
The commission received 10 applications during the hearing from representatives of backward communities for inclusion in the list of backward classes and also for change in category of some communities in the backward classes list. Members of Savita Samaja community requested the commission to ban the use of the word “hajama”, he said.
Members of Arya Vysya, Christian, tribal community Davari, Shivarchak, Kumbara, Budabudake, Madivala, Aradhya and Lingayat communities also submitted memorandums seeking special benefits, he said.
