Asserting that religious tolerance and respect for other religions have remained an intrinsic part of the Indian culture, Minister for IT and BT S.R. Patil has said that we should only carry that legacy forward, instead of creating a situation where foreigners preach religious tolerance to us. He was making an indirect reference U.S. President Barack Obama who, during his recent visit to India, expressed concern over the increasing religious interference in India.
Speaking during the valedictory function of the three-day Navaraspur Utsav at Sangeet Mahal on Sunday, Mr. Patil said people should follow the preaching of rulers such as Adil Shahis, who have remained a classic example for religious harmony.
Describing Ibrahim Adil-II, one of the Adil Shahi emperors, as man who considered religious harmony more important than the wars, he said that the king also adored the music and art.
He thanked the district administration, mainly the district In-charge Minister M.B. Patil for organising the cultural event, which, he felt had enable the people to relive the lost cultural legacy of Adil Shahis.
Later, in his address, district in-charge Minister, M.B. Patil said that effort would be made to popularise Navaraspur Utsav at the national-level in coming days, by adding more glamour to it.
About the temporary musical fountain installed at the tank inside the Sangeet Mahal, Mr. Patil said that a plan has been mooted to retain the fountain for the public.
