In what turned out to be a day-long operation, the staff of two police stations in the southeast division pursued a taxi driver to recover a brand new iPhone that a passenger had left in the car. The operation was launched after the passenger’s father, a senior army officer, sought the help of the Jurisdictional Deputy Commissioner of Police to track down the car.
The moment the message was flashed, the Parappana Agrahara and the Koramangala police swung into action. Their first port of call was the taxi aggregator’s office where they identified the driver (Puneet Kumar).
One policeman was posted at the office to wait till Puneet returned from his shift. But that day, Puneet had decided to extend his work hours in order to earn additional incentives.
“We first considered calling him but we feared that would alert him. So, we decided to track him down,” Inspector Prashanth Babu D.M. of Parappana Agrahara said.
The police finally tracked him down at Byatarayanapura on Mysuru Road and recovered the mobile phone.
The police later learned that after dropping the army officer’s son, Puneet had another passenger who found the phone and gave it to him. He started receiving calls on the mobile but couldn’t understand what was being said because of a language barrier. He simply switched it off.
The police receive huge applause and appreciation from higher-ups for timely action, but the bigger question remains whether they show the same enthusiasm for every complaint.
