All India Congress Committee general secretary Digvijay Singh on Saturday alleged that reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on 2G spectrum and coal block allocations were doctored by the Bharatiya Janata Party, which controlled the CAG by virtue of being the principal Opposition party in the Lok Sabha.
At the general body meeting of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) here, Mr. Singh, who is in charge of Karnataka affairs, said the CAG worked under the Public Accounts Committee headed by the BJP, which arrived at the “presumptive losses” to the government in the spectrum and coal block allocations. The CAG reports were used by the BJP to attack the Congress during the Lok Sabha elections, he said.
The two-day meeting has been convened to do a post-mortem of the Lok Sabha election debacle.
Mr. Singh termed the BJP allegations based on the CAG reports false.
He said the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government had achieved in agriculture, employment generation, food production and international relations, but regrettably, the party failed in taking the message across to people. He called upon the KPCC to redesign and re-structure the organisation to bounce back.
Echoing him, Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha M. Mallikarjun Kharge said the BJP came to power by making false allegations against the UPA government and the Congress.
He alleged that there was interference by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in the National Democratic Alliance government, which was reflected in the handling of the appointment of Supreme Court judges.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and KPCC president G. Parameshwara were among the prominent leaders who attended the meeting.
