‘He never consulted us on his decision to join the BJP’

Workers of the BSR Congress, whose leader B.S. Sriramulu has now joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said they have been “abandoned” by their leader, who is refusing to even meet them.

Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, the party’s State vice-president Hanumanth Dambal said party workers had been making repeated appeals to Mr. Sriramulu to convene a meeting with them. “Now, as a last resort, we are appealing to him through the media to meet us,” he said.

“The leader whom we trusted cannot be an escapist,” he said. Mr. Sriramulu had only “announced” his decision to join the BJP, but never consulted them, he added. This amounted to reneging on the promise made to party workers that he would take them along in any decision he makes, said Mr. Dambal.

“Some of us were workers in other parties and left to join Mr. Sriramulu, when he started BSR Congress. Now we regret the decision,” he said.

C.K. Jagadeesh, another BSR Congress worker, said they had met their jailed leader G. Janardhan Reddy, and he had assured them of help. “We do not have a problem with Mr. Sriramulu joining the BJP, but he should take us along as a responsible leader,” he said. BSR Congress party workers have decided to meet on March 23 to decide the next course of action.
