Bringing alive images of a bygone era

Yaduveer’s ‘coronation’ today will be a throwback into the past when maharajas were at the helm of affairs

The stage is set for the ‘coronation’ ceremony of Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, which will conjure up images of a bygone era.

The Kalyana Mantapa at the Amba Vilas Palace — where ceremonies will take place on Thursday — has been decked up to befit the occasion.

Special rituals and ceremonies were conducted on Wednesday, and this will culminate with the ‘Pattabhisheka’ on Thursday. The palace echoed with the chanting of hymns and sacred texts as various rituals were conducted under the guidance of a battery of priests.

Yaduveer paid a visit to the Sri Lakshmiramanaswamy Temple as per the family tradition. An ensemble of musicians and palace guards accompanied the motorcade carrying Yaduveer to the temple. After offering prayers, he returned to the Kalyana Mantapa, which was the centre of all rituals that were witnessed by close family members and friends. He performed the ‘pada puja’ to Pramoda Devi Wadiyar and later to the seer of Sri Brahmatantra Swatantra Parakala Mutt.
